Courtsdesk allows you to monitor for new (or future) proceedings, for changes to a callover or for new callovers, and most importantly, for an individual case.
There are three options for setting up alerts for Circuit Court matters:
Tracked Search (names) - for alerts to new litigation naming a person or company of interest
Tracked Search (cases) - for alerts to new diaries including updates to a specific case
Track button - for tracking changes to already-published diaries
Tracked Search for Circuit Court alerts
You can use this function to set up a variety of alerts. Examples of how this can be useful include setting up alerts for:
the name of any party, such as your own law firm or any party
specific case numbers
callover lists
new diaries published for any court / venue
specific types of diaries, e.g. personal insolvency lists
Rather than spend long hours each week trying to find relevant cases in the Courts Service's legal diary, here are some ways you can now set up alerts for only diaries which are relevant to you.
1. Set up alerts for any person or company name
Using the 'Track this search' function, you can set up alerts for any new Circuit Court diaries which mention a specific name, such as your law firm or a client.
Instructions to set up a Tracked Search:
Go to the search bar at the top of the scree and enter the name you require,
Wait for your search results to load
Click the 'Track this search' - see text in pink on the top right
You will receive an on-screen notification in green that the tracked search has been set up. Here's an example:
Any tracked searches you set up can be checked or deleted in your "Tracking" section in the toolbar on the left - the binoculars icon.
Examples of tracked name searches to carry out common tasks
Receive alerts for any diaries with cases involving your firm, e.g. Eversheds:
+Eversheds
Receive alerts for cases involving your firm in a given court:
+Eversheds, address:Sligo
+A B Wolfe, address:Galway
Receive alerts for cases involving your client:
+Permanent TSB
Important note on 'exact' and 'fuzzy' match in the Circuit Court
In the Circuit Court, because diaries contain so many names, you may want to try an exact match search in order to avoid false positives in your results or alerts.
By default, Courtsdesk's search is designed to assist with misspellings. As a result, it checks for close matches - sometimes referred to as 'extended' or 'fuzzy' matching search. So "PTSB" might match on "PTS"
Here is a quick example of how to enter both types of search in the search bar:
Some examples of fuzzy vs exact search, using the plus symbol shortcut.
Standard 'fuzzy' search | Exact match search |
An Post | +An Post |
AIB Mortgage Bank | +AIB Mortgage Bank |
John Doe | +John Doe |
Note - insert a comma to separate search terms.
In the examples above the exact match will be applied to the entire string of words, e.g. "AIB Mortgage Bank" or "John Doe".
Searches can be combined in this way, e.g. to search "+Eversheds" and "John Doe" you enter: +Eversheds, John Doe .
2. Set up alerts for specific case numbers
Using the exact match instructions described above, you can set up alerts for new diaries containing updates to a specific case number.
Important note: Irish Circuit Court case numbers are not unique - the Courts Service allows different circuits to use the same number for different cases. In order to find or track only the case you are interested in, it is necessary to add a second search term.
Example:
Case Ref: 2019/00011
Plaintiff: Cabot Asset Purchases (Ireland) Limited
Defendant: John Cawley
P Solicitor: Belgard & Company
D Solicitor: Seamus Monaghan & Co
In order to track this case for any new mentions here are some options:
Search for both case number and one of the law firms on record
+2019/00011, Belgard
Search for both case number and one party
+2019/00011, Cabot
Once the results are narrowed down to show only the diaries you are interested in click the 'Track this search' button in pink in the upper right hand corner of the results page.
3. The Track Button for Circuit Diaries
Clicking the 'Track' button on an Irish Circuit Court Diary page will trigger alert - by email and in your stored notifications section of the site - when any update is detected on Courtsdesk.
For Circuit Court diaries you will be notified for updates or changes to that diary including:
the venue
the listing date
case listings on the diary, such as the addition or removal of cases
The track button is available on Circuit Court diaries at the top left of the page.
