Courtsdesk offers its' users the ability to enhance searches and results by enabling advanced filters. Simply click on the advanced drop down menu to enter facets of information to your search. The advanced filter options change depending on what data source you are conducting a search in, i.e. High Court, Circuit Court Diaries, Companies, etc.

Once you have entered information into one or more of the advanced filters and run your search, you will notice the search bar generated shortcuts for the information in that search.

Shortcuts are a time saving feature within Courtsdesk, and the only way to learn what shortcut to, for example, use to find a case where an individual or company was listed as the defendant is by using the advanced search drop down menu.

Below are a few shortcuts to explore:

Exact Match Shortcut

The most common shortcut amongst our users is the exact match shortcut. This means that you are searching with details spelt exactly as you spelled them, and will not include grammatical mistakes or potential similar results. You can obtain these results by adding a + in front of your search.

For example: +Denis O’Brien OR +00045/2019 OR +Arthur Cox

Venue Shortcut

Another helpful shortcut is the court venue shortcut. In order to view a callover for a court of interest or be even more specific when searching for, say, a case you know someone is involved in, simply add address: to your search.

For example: callover, address:kilkenny OR +o’connell OR address:kilkenny

Select the link above to view results for that search

Party Shortcut

Find cases by searching for either plaintiff or defendant in the High Court, and if you know someone is involved in a case but you are not sure what side they are on, you can search by party as well.

For example: p:Padraig O’Connell OR d:Pradraig O’Connell OR party:Padraig O’Connell

Select the link above to view results for that search

Legal Representation Shortcut

Similar to the party search, Courtsdesk also allows you to search via legal representation for either plaintiff or defendant, or legal representation named in a case if you are not sure what side they represent.

For example: pl:Arthur Cox OR dl:Arthur Cox OR legal:Arthur Cox

One last tip: note the spacing between the shortcut and facet of information as well as the comma separating the searches with more than one term.

Log into your Courtsdesk account and try a few shortcut searches for yourself.
